If you are considering painting your kitchen cabinets, you have probably spent a while on Pinterest or Houzz searching for kitchens very similar to yours to get ideas on what color to paint your kitchen cabinets. After several years and 100’s of kitchen cupboard projects under our belt we’ve got many GO-TO paint colors that work in these situations.

That is probably our most common kitchen job upgrade. The clients have a house that was constructed from the early to mid 2000’s when Tuscan kitchens were the rage. The kitchen cabinets are a great excellent cabinet, they just require a color update. Granite counters generally have wood tone closets and busy granite layouts with browns, oranges, and lotions. Since the granite is really active and bossy in the kitchen it will usually dictate the paint colour. When thinking about a home’s resale potential, we constantly advise lightening up a Tuscan kitchen. A great paint color that almost always works with the above variables is Sherwin Williams 7012 Creamy. Kitchen lighting will change how the color looks on your area so be sure that you try out any color on your kitchen prior to painting. Do not forget to factor in your floors whenever you’re picking a paint color.

There is nothing you really need to say about a white kitchen. It’s clean, classic and awesome for resale. According to color expert, Maria Killim, a white kitchen will never go out of style. White kitchens are all the rage today. Folks are replacing the active, bossy granite patterns of the 2000’s with granite goods with white and gray veining. These kitchens need the ideal white to compliment these upgrades.
It’s only a touch of cream and works superbly with the Carrera Marble and grey veined quartz products we see so frequently in today’s new and upgraded kitchens.

A colour that is popular with many artists is Benjamin Moore OC-17 White Dove.

THE GRAY KITCHEN UPDATE

We’ve seen gray paint colors growing in popularity during the last few decades. The first question I always ask through a painting consult is,”How long are you going to maintain your home?” If the reply to this question is less than five years, I try to direct the client to a much more neutral paint colour that will appeal to a wider group when seeking to sell the house. If the answer is over five years, I use the customer to incorporate some more stylish paint colors, like grey. Typically if we see a colour trend, it’s about a 10 year cycle. I would say we are likely 5 years to the gray trend so it ought to be a fairly safe color choice for the next few years. I wrote a post about Painting Your Cabinets Gray that comes with a fantastic warm grey – Sherwin Williams 7045 Intellectual Gray.

Lastly, if you’d like a neutral having a warm gray undertone, Sherwin Williams 7036 Accessible Beige is superb.
Be advised, grays work best with white or black countertops. Grays won’t work well with brownish or walnut.
Paint colors may appear different in different lighting. Always assess your paint colour with your closing lighting resource. If you are updating lighting in your kitchen, wait to choose your paint color until the new light is installed.
