First, remove all the doors and hardware. Check your hardware whether to replace or keep it existing. All surfaces must be sanded very well with appropriate sandpaper, after which you dust and sweep these areas. All cabinets must be washed with appropriate cleaner and or deglosser. Time to select the paint color you want. Before painting, all cabinets must be applied with an odorless oil base stain blocking primer. Apply the putty, wood fill, sand and caulk where these are needed. Apply a satin or semi gloss oil base paint.Have 2 – 3 finish coats sanding in between each coat of paint. It’s now time to replace the doors and hardware. It is just very important to prepare the cabinets properly before you start to paint. The cabinets must be cleaned very well and make slight rough edges on the surface so that the paint will stick well. Oil based primers are better as they have superior adhesive qualities. It is very important also to apply the finish paint as soon as the oil primer has already dried up. You may consider applying non-yellowish clear polyurethane to the painted surfaces once they have dried for added protection. You can also consider adding small wood moldings to your cabinet doors and drawers and decorative crown moldings at the top for a perfectly new dramatic look for your newly refinished cabinets.
